Candela Restaurant | Our Story

A little corner of Spain, since 2007
Candela was born from a memory — the lively tapas bars of Spain where plates are shared, wine flows freely, and strangers become friends. Chef Armando Vega and Yudaris Paez opened these doors in 2007 to bring that spirit to Fort Lauderdale.

How it started
After years in Spain and Italy, Armando and Yudaris came to Fort Lauderdale and found something missing — the warmth of candlelit tapas bars where every table feels like family. So they found the right spot and opened Candela.

Passion on every plate
Chef Armando's cooking is rooted in simplicity — produce as fresh as possible, seafood from trusted suppliers, and spices imported directly from Spain. Nothing leaves the kitchen until he or Yudaris says it's ready.

Built from scratch
The dining room came together not with deep pockets but with a clear vision — every tile, table, and recipe shaped by years of travel and a deep love for Spanish food traditions. As Check, Please! South Florida put it, eating here is "like having your private chef."

Rooted in the community
For over fifteen years, Candela has partnered with local organizations to support young people from disadvantaged backgrounds and welcome students — including those with special dietary or religious needs.

Your seat is waiting
Whether you're stopping in for a quick tapa and a glass of Rioja or settling in for a slow, golden paella evening — pull up a chair. ¡Bienvenidos!
